just a short update on what’s new on RiC:
- We’ve integrated our Flickr photo group at RiC. Check it out and see some recent photos, some from Midi 2007, some selected Sets and some PK shots.
- We’ve opened a “Featured News” area at RiC. At the moment featured: three festivals (Modern Sky, Hangzhou Rock and Shanghai Rock it!) plus the Testament Gig!
- A cooperation with Small Swords Magazine in Shanghai started sharing interesting articles and supporting the rock scene together! Check them out, they have some nice articles and interviews.
HangGai, the Beijing-based Mongolian band, will play in Berlin for a special concert on the Mongolian national holiday “Naadam” on Wednesday, July 11th. The evening will start with a screening of the documentary Beijing Bubbles also featuring the band.
For details see Fly Fast Records.
German pop rock band Liquido rocked the Chinese Midi Festival in 2007. We’ve posted a video and intereviewed the band. Stefan, the bass player, answered Rock in China’s questions on the festival, their experiences in China and whether they would like to come back one day.

we of Rock in China have supplied Gig lists with upcoming shows for a long long time. In the beginning we started adding them by hand into HTML, then we had a database and now we had a gig calendar running for a long time, but always with one major disadvantage: it had always only been us who could enter gigs into the database and everybody had to send emails to us. Dozends of emails. Tremendously a lot of work.
Now we want to change to a new system, preferebly a system everybody can use, everybody can enter their gigs and a system we can include at RiC. This system is propably going to be Upcoming! (A susidiary of Yahoo!).
We’ve created a RiC Group there and also opened a new Gigs! menu item on the left.
For time being we’re going to have both gig listings (upcoming and the calendar) up and running, but in the long term we’re going to concentrate on the upcoming on.
Therefore: You are from a band? You are from a bar? You are a concert organizer? You want your gigs displayed? Then hook up with upcoming and enter your gigs, send them to our Rock in China group and they are displayed here and at several of our cooperation sites!
Any questions? Send me an email: mlvonschaper at yahoo.de
Rock in China is in need. We need you! We need your help! We need information!
Rock in China has been run so far by 2-3 persons from China and Germany with various intensities. Sometimes we had a lot of time and could post a lot of articles and infos, but sometimes (such as now) we’re having a backlog of other things to do, so our RiC postings are not as often as we wish them to be.
Therefore we’re looking for you! If you are interesting in helping us, writing reports, sending in photos or informing about concerts, tell us.
Send me your ideas to mlvonschaper at yahoo.de
Shameless self-promotion: we at the Painkiller tent at the Midi 2007 festival in Beijing.
